This evening “American Idol” contestants are performing for the American audience with the viewers holding the fate of the performers in their hands for the first time this season. American Idol judges have narrowed the competition down to 24 contestants; twelve men and twelve women.

Tonight all twelve men will perform from 8PM Eastern to 930PM and the women will perform Wednesday evening during the same time slot. The American viewers will be able to cast votes throughout the viewing, and Thursday night, from 8PM to 10PM, fans will be able to see the first results of their voting.

This season Idol fans will have other options for voting for their favorites. No longer will texting on your phone be the only way to make your voice heard. Idol has gone “social” and made Facebook online voting an option for participating in the fates of the last 24 competitors.

For those fans that can’t wait to see what some of the guys are performing tonight, the “American Idol” website has listed some spoiler information that might help you uber fans get your fix.

Now, for this writer’s personal opinion on this season of “American Idol”, I’ve never been a fan of the show and out of all the seasons I may have watched a total of three episodes. However, this season I am hooked on “the Idol”. I’ve seen every episode, other than the New Orleans auditions, and I am very impressed with the talent displayed this season.

American Idol hosts a unique mixture of participants this season with a few original act performers that break the mold of “Pop Rock” we’ve seen in the past, even playing up to the cowboy in you with the young and surprisingly low bass voiced Scotty McCreery.

“James Durbin” is a name that just rolls off the tongue, but as a performer diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome, it’s amazing that this young man can belt out tunes that have Aerosmith front man and American Idol judge, Steven Tyler, saying that he sang one of Aerosmith’s songs better than Steven himself.

Although I can’t take the time to mention every talent by name in this article, I can’t close without naming one talent that has surprised judges, viewers and this writer alike. With his crazy antics and even crazier talent, “Casey Abrams” is a name that I’m sure that we’ll see through to the end of this competition if talent is what the American fans are looking for in these contestants.

  1. You could be right. Her presence doesn’t quite match her gravely voice. She’s a cute blond with a rough voice. Doesn’t quite compute.

  2. I agree with almost everything…except I think it will be Haley that goes home tonight. Not because of her talent, but because she is not as popular with fans. Plus she has horrible stage presents. I wish instead of you writing these long comments you would take a couple extra minutes and write us an article, you broke it down like you were doing so anyhow.

  3. OK we are down to no one needs to get kicked off the show tonight. I know I am the only one posting on this subject but I just have to say, they are the most talented bunch of Idol contenders ever! Naima came back this week with a chilling performance and Thia was blazing. Stephano is the one I predict will go, even though he is good. All I can say is there is a lot of money going to be made by these guys in years to come.. Casey Abrams owns the stage, as does James Durbin, each in their own ways. Pia is another Celine Dion. Paul’s voice is so unique that he does remind one of Bob Dylan, but I don’t think he will make it to the end.Scotty, the young country western up and coming star at 17, surprised us all by making Mo Town a country of its own. Haley came back sounding like Janis Joplin and Laurin was beautiful and throaty as always, singing beyond her young 16 years of age. Jacob is said to be the new Luther, but I don’t know if that will hold.. he’s good, but he has to work really hard to get there. What do you all think?

  4. I want to say before tonight’s decision is made that I don’t know how they will possibly cut this down to 10, or 12! This year’s contestants are crazy talented! I do think this year has moved to extreme talent right out of the Hollywood chute much faster than years past. It must have to come down to how many people of different music styles exist in the US or whereever they are allowed to vote. Just for fun, I want to say definitely Casey Abrams, then Jacob Lusk, Paul, Scotty (he’s good and he’s country), and James… After that it could be several of the rest for the 6th male slot…

I can’t remember the girls as well and I didn’t record it, but Pia, TaTynisa, Laurin Alaina, Lauren Turner, and my favorite, Naima Adedapo stick in my memory… I remember thinking the guys must have the best talent this year, but when the girls performed I was blown away by the power, quality and professionalism. I liked Rachel Zevita too, but the judges ripped her. They were really impressed by Thia but I felt you must have had to be live to get the full effect because I was not that impressed. Of course, she is only 15….Can’t wait to see how close I am overall..

  5. I am inclined to agree. The audition portion of the show was always like a train wreck for me to watch, but I never was able to return the following week to follow the entire season…this season I’m hooked. Unfortunetly I’ve got three favorites for the guys and 2-3 for the girls so I’m already set up for disappointment.

  6. American Idol is one of those shows, like Survivor, that we hate to admit we watch, but once we turn it on for an episode, we keep going back. I like the change of Steven Tyler instead of Simon Cowell. I respect Simon, but his negativity was getting so predictable. I love watching Steven get lost in the music, if it is to his liking. He closes his eyes, and he is just gone…. On the other hand if it is bad music, he looks like someone is zapping him with electrodes. James Durbin also has a diagnosis of Asperger’s syndrome and I think this should be recognized. Many people with Asperger’s are brilliant in some area.
